Experiment
Change your perspective on life by focusing on what you have, not
what you don't. As human beings we have a tendency to focus on
what is missing from our lives instead of acknowledging what is
going right in our lives.
I was working with a client who always complained that as a single
mom of two young children, she worked all day and had no time for
herself.
One of the exercises I suggested Judy complete was to make a list
of all the things she was grateful for. The next week Judy had a
list of 20 items. She told me she asked her children to help write
the list and they had such a good time together. Her
seven-year-old son asked if they could go to the zoo that weekend.
On Sunday they went to the zoo and while they were there Judy
realized she did not have to be alone to have a good time.
Judy thanked me for suggesting the exercise because it made her
realize how lucky she was to have her children and a great job.
Focusing on what you have, not what you don't makes life easier
and puts a smile on your face.
Now it is your turn. I invite you to take any or all of the small
steps below. The following exercise can be done alone or with
family members or close friend.
-
Write a list of all the things in your life you are grateful
for.
Example:
•
My husband is very supportive
•
2 great friends
•
I love my job
-
Decide which item you feel is a blessing.
Example: My husband is very supportive or I love to take long
walks.
-
Acknowledge the person, or if it is an activity, plan to
schedule time to enjoy it again.
Example: Write your husband a letter acknowledging him or
go for that long walk.
-
Create an acknowledgement journal and every night write at least
two things you were grateful for that day.
-
When feeling sorry for yourself, acknowledge the thought and say
to yourself the two things you were grateful for yesterday.
-
Do something nice for yourself everyday.
Send me an e-mail
about your experience and let me know if I can support you in
anyway. I love hearing from you and by contacting me you will
receive a special gift. |
