Love Yourself - IT MATTERS

July / 2009

This was a very special week for me. Dillon, my grandson came to spend time with me and make repairs around the house.

Things that were really bothering me took him about 20 minutes to fix. Now trees are no longer growing out of the gutters on the roof and I can put a light on instead of working in the dark.

Now that my life is different without Bob, I have difficulty asking others for help.

I have learned that most people enjoy helping. Their willingness and smile of accomplishment, when they finish, is rewarding for the both of us.

Jill, my daughter, always said "instead of apologizing for asking, just say thank you when the job is done."

These lessons have made my life much easier.

Please share how asking for help has made your life easier. I am looking forward to reading about your experiences.

Finally, thanks for connecting with me on Facebook and LinkedIn. It is great learning about your business endeavors and what is going on in your lives.

Helen’s Monthly Biz Tip

Helen's Monthly Biz Tip

Do you sometimes hold your breath as you are walking into a Networking Event?

Welcome to the world of the business owner.

Don't fret the feeling of fear could be replaced instantly.

Taking the following steps can reassure yourself that you are safe and going to have a good time:

  • Put a smile on your face.

  • Think of something that makes you happy.

  • Say "Hello" to the first person you see. I know this maybe a very hard step to take, but trust me it makes it easier to enter the room.

  • Walk over to someone you know or have met recently and ask them how they are doing? People love to talk about themselves and it will make you feel more comfortable.

These steps will gradually help you to enjoy yourself and your self-confidence will reappear.

Remember the fun part of attending networking events is to meet new people and learn from the presenter. Gradually you will build relationships and attract new clients.

Need support in getting your business launched? Send me an email at helen@loveyourselfcoaching.net and together, we can brainstorm easy ideas to get you started.

Labyrinth Journey

Life is a Labyrinth

Labyrinths have existed in virtually every period in history and most cultural communities for 3500 years. A labyrinth is an ancient symbol of wholeness. Also, a sacred tool viewed as a metaphor for life's journey.

The ancient and powerful tool is unicursal, offering only one route to the center and back out again. Walking the labyrinth you meander through each of the four quadrants several times before reaching your goal. The labyrinth offers you lessons as you walk the path and can assist you in addressing challenges, meditate, pray and find peace and serenity.

While visiting the New Age Health Spa in Neversink, New York, I walked along the Labyrinth different paths.

When I first arrived at the Labyrinth it looked like the skies would open up and pour with rain. Not letting the rain stop me, I started walking and thinking about what was happening in my life. As I kept walking it seemed the middle was so far away even though it was in sight.

After awhile the only thing I was focusing on was getting to the middle before it started raining. Kept walking, at one point I tripped and got back up. All of a sudden it hit me, walking along the different paths, is like our life's journey. We keep reaching for goals, sometimes falling backwards and always keep going even though they seemed so far away.

Eventually, I reached the middle, stayed a few seconds and turned to leave. It was like I reached my goal and what was next. The walk back was quick and the rain held off until I got back to the cafeteria.

Working with unemployed clients I realized they are walking a Labyrinth. Some prospects lead to interviews, new jobs and others to dead ends. My clients sometimes fall, get back up and keep walking along the different paths until they reach their goal.

Today is a new day and the beginning of your walk on the labyrinth. Take that first step with a new belief that the different paths will eventually lead to your goal of finding a job.

Keep creating and thinking about new possibilities that are on the horizon.

Good Luck!

Get Off the Diet Merry-Go-Round Restaurant Tips

Chinese Restaurant

If you are following a healthy eating plan a Chinese Restaurant is one of the easiest places to enjoy your food and not deviate from your plan.

Menu

  • Wonton Soup without the wontons (Basically just the broth)

  • Steamed vegetables with either chicken, seafood or beef (Order more vegetables and less protein)

  • Brown rice (Chinese tea cup filled with rice)

    • If the restaurant does not serve brown rice have white rice instead

  • Garlic Sauce without sugar, cornstarch or flour

    • Instead of the garlic sauce I sometimes bring salad dressing with me and pour it over the vegetables.

  • Drink as much tea as you want

  • Fruit for desert. (Restaurant usually has oranges)

ENJOY!!!

Now it is Your Turn!

Please send me an email at helen@loveyourselfcoaching.net with your restaurant tips and I will share them with the Love Yourself – It Matters Community.
